A Day of Song

A BLOG BY CIRILLA NEILES

Today, we had the wonderful Tim Gilvin joining us who is an amazing pianist, singer, musician and teacher. We learnt a new song, ‘Easter Parade’ by Irving Berlin to get us into the Easter spirit!

In the afternoon, we were surprised with lovely news that we were going to visit Stratford Bentley Nursing Home and perform ‘Easter Parade’, a medley of ‘When the Saints/Swing Low/I’m Gonna Sing, Sing Sing’ and ‘We Sail the Ocean Blue’ by Gilbert and Sullivan (which we hadn’t looked at since the showing of ‘This Sceptered Isle’ back in December!) It was absolutely lovely to be back at the Bentley not only to sing to them, but to also say hello to the friends we made during our last project, ‘In Our Day’.

After we’d said our goodbyes, we headed back to HQ to work on Kate Bush’s song ‘Moments Of Pleasure’, which we had learnt a few months prior. We also went over one of the, if not the, best song in the world, ‘Cornerstones’, which was written by us all in the company and composed by the fantastic Tim Gilvin.

Then we finished off with a performance of the songs we had covered today before sadly, having to say goodbye to Tim. Hopefully, he’ll be back with us again very soon as he is such a pleasure to work with and we are all truly grateful when we get the opportunity too.

After that, it was some well deserved dinner time, before resuming our rehearsals for our latest project!
